Would you like to achieve a smoother, brighter, and more even complexion? Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that may be able to help you reach those goals. It is a wonderful cosmetic option on its own, but did you know that it is even better when it is used alongside PRP? What is microneedling with PRP, and what benefits does it offer? This blog post explains.

Microneedling with PRP: What Is It?

Microneedling is a treatment during which a qualified medical professional uses a device with tiny needles that puncture the skin. The minimal damage caused by the needles instigates a healing response in the body, which can stimulate collagen production and help to reduce scarring, reduce pore size, minimize fine lines and wrinkles, and more.

By itself, microneedling is consistently effective. However, some med spas offer it alongside an additional service: PRP. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is derived from a patient’s own blood, which is placed in a centrifuge to separate out the part of the blood that has a high concentration of platelets. The PRP is applied immediately after microneedling to enhance its results.

Benefits of Combining PRP with Microneedling

PRP has the potential to amplify the effectiveness of microneedling. For example, one study from 2016 found that microneedling with distilled water led to a 45.84% reduction in acne scarring. That number jumped to 62.2% when microneedling with PRP was used instead.

Other noteworthy benefits of PRP include:

  • It can speed up healing time after microneedling.
  • Since it uses a patient’s own blood, the chances of an adverse reaction are virtually nonexistent.
  • PRP with microneedling consistently increases patient satisfaction.
  • It delivers noticeable results that last.

Is Microneedling with PRP Right for You?

PRP can increase the cost of microneedling, and it can take a bit of extra time to draw blood and process it properly. If you are unsure of whether you want to commit to the additional time and expense, talk to your med spa team about your options. They can provide straightforward information about the treatment and help you to make a well-informed decision about what you want to do. Hopefully, you will soon be on your way to more youthful skin and a more confident outlook on life!
